Abstract

292,394. Blake, W. M., Sept. 19, 1927. Buoyant fittings.-A floating life saving mattress comprises a cover of canvas &c. enclosing a uniform layer of kapok &c. which is located by transverse strings and buttons 4. Loops 5 are fixed to the upper and lower surfaces of the cover and a rope 9 passes around the outer edge thereof and locates a number of eyelets 8. Wood or metal rods 7 are inserted at uniform distances apart to stiffen the mattress. A number of such mattresses may be fastened together by lanyards 10 and eyelets 8. U-shaped members 11 are provided at either end for towing by means of ropes 12.
