Abstract

341,137. Tents and awnings. BUCK, A. G. R., 10, Rusthall Avenue, Bedford Park, London. Oct. 21, 1929, No. 31907. [Class 20 (i).] A tent or awning cover is formed of layers of material connected together so t h a the e intervening air spaces are divided into closed compartments. The cover may be formed in two layers 1, 28, separated by an air space and vertical curtains 25 be used to subdivide the air space into separate compartments. The curtains 25 may fall beneath the ridge lengthwise and beneath the transverse stiffeners 22 for the outer cover, these stiffeners lying within canvas pockets 13 on the outer cover and being secured at their ends to the ridge pole 9 and stanchions 4 respectively. The inner cover may be formed of a number of layers quilted together to comprise separate air pockets and may be secured directly to the outer cover at various parts to enclose air pockets between the layers. The outer cover is provided with a flexible ridge portion formed of a rope 16 enclosed in fibrous material in a cover flap 10, the rope being adapted to embrace thimbles 8 at intervals through which the supporting shackles 15 are passed, by which the flexible ridge is supported from a rigid ridge 16, the inner cover being suspended from the flexible ridge. The air pockets may be filled loosely with air-retaining packing in order that the spaces may be shaped and ensured.
