Abstract

292,186. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Jan. 10, 1927. Sulphuretted hydrogen, either free or in the form of mono-sulphide is prepared by heating under pressure, with hydrogen, carbon monoxide, formic acid or formates, sulphur or inorganic compounds such as polysulphides, thiosulphates &c. which yield free sulphur on acidification. The reaction may be carried out in presence of water, aqueous ammonia or solutions of alkali or alkaline earth hydroxides, and of catalysts such as metals, particularly those of the eighth group of the periodic system, or their oxides, hydroxides, sulphides, or carbonates, or sub. stances having a large superficial area such as silica gel, aluminia, active charcoal, &c. Pressures up to 130 atmospheres and temperatures below dull red heat are made use of. Specification 13849/14 is referred to.
