Abstract

Movable abutment type; working-fluid supply -In a rotary internal-combustion engine in which an eccentric rotor, shown separate in Fig. 4, with U-shaped combustion chambers 18 cooperates with a liquid ring maintained by centrifugal action in a rotating casing 11, the two legs 19, 20 of the combustion chambers opening to the periphery of the rotor and being separated by a web 24 which always extends into the liquid ring, one leg 20 of each chamber is arranged in angular advance of the other 19 so that the chamber 18 opens to exhaust before the other leg 19 opens to admit a fresh charge. The working fluid is supplied through the shaft 14 of the rotor and radial passages 15 which open into a space 30 communicating with the inlet legs 19 of the combustion chambers and enclosed by a web 25. The gases exhaust through ducts 17 in a flange 16 in the casing 11 which are arranged to give a reaction drive. The casing is formed with a trough 21 of sufficient volume to hold the liquid out of contact with the rotor when stationary. The rotor and casing may be geared or linked together.
