Abstract
291,551. Contraflo Engineering Co., Ltd., and Gunn, J. March 18, 1927. Plates, jointing tubes to.-The tubes, e of an evaporator &c., are connected to the tube plates h, h<1>, thereof by means of coupling-pieces l in the form of bolts which are secured to or formed integral with the ends of the tubes and project through holes in the tube plates. The head of each bolt l forms a shoulder which abuts against the inner side of the tube plate, while the outer screwed end thereof receives a nut n which bears against the outer side preferably with the interposition of packing p. The holes in the plate h<1> are made slightly larger than the heads of the coupling-pieces l and receive annular screwed members m which have an internal diameter equal to the holes in the plate h, so that upon removal of the nuts n and member m any tube may be withdrawn. The tubes may be slightly curved or provided with a bellows piece o, Fig. 4, in order to take up any expansion or contraction thereof, and, with the latter construction, the tubes are preferably inclined to prevent accumulation of water in said bellows piece.
