Abstract

276,215. Galloways, Ltd., and Pilling, H. Dec. 28, 1926. Packing, metallic.-A tube a, Fig. 1, is attached to the header c of a boiler, superheater &c. by means of a jointing ring f of soft metal &c. which is positioned within a conical aperture e, but not to fill same, formed in a socket provided in the header, and is compressed by a gland b which screws into said socket. The tubes are further secured by nuts d which are screwed on to the ends thereof after jointing. The header is provided with removable caps g for inspection or cleaning purposes and also for the insertion and withdrawal of the tubes. In a modification, Fig. 6, the jointing socket is formed in a nut i screwed into the header, while in a further modification, Fig. 8, an externally and internally screwed gland, to serve the dual purpose of compressing the packing and retaining the tube in position, is used. Alternative forms of jointing ring are shown in Figs. 3, 4 and 5.
