Plates, walls, and other plane surfaces, jointing tubes to.-In a joint applicable to jointing tubes to plates, and particularly securing superheater tubes to headers, .an opening is provided to receive the end of the tube, and is provided with a recess to receive a packing-ring h, preferably of soft metal such as. copper. The tube is provided near the extremity with a protuberance b formed. by expanding. One side of the protuberance bears against the packing h under pressure applied to the other side of the protuberance by a yoke-piece k previously placed on the ends of the tubular element, and drawn up by a bolt and nut n, the head of the bolt being preferably held against rotation bv the sides of a recess o in the yoke-piece. In a modification, described as securing a single end of a steam-pipe to a steam-chest, the yokepiece is replaced by a loose flange, held by studs screwed into the chest, passing through holes in the flange, and having nuts bearing against the back of the flange. The yoke-piece and flange are recessed as shown to conform to that part of the protuberance against which they bear.
