291,468. Soc. Anon. des Manufactures des Glaces et Produits Chimiques de St.-Gobain, Chauny, et Cirey. June 4, 1927, [Convention date]. Production of metal.-Relates to glass which has a considerable degree of transparency to ultra-violet rays, and to the tendency of the glass to lose a considerable part of its transparency. In order to overcome this tendency, a small proportion of oxide of manganese is incorporated with the batch and the glass is melted under reducing conditions. Silica glass and transparent cast silica may be treated similarly.
