Abstract

290,665. Pouchain, A. May 19, 1927, [Convention date] Electrolytes.-An accumulator employing zinc and lead electrodes is provided with a sulphuric acid electrolyte of such strength that the amount of free sulphuric acid varies from 280 grams to 80 grams per litre of electrolyte according to the state of charge of the accumulator. The required limits can be obtained by employing an electrolyte consisting of 80-150 grams of sulphuric acid, 450-650 grams of zinc sulphate and 1000 cc of water. From 15 to 30 grams of additional substances having catalytic properties may be added, such as boric acid or sulphates of aluminium, mercury, sodium or potassium. At least 800 cc of electrolyte are used for each 75 ampere-hours capacity.
