[Class 53.] Electrolytes; electrodes.-The initial electrolyte with which the zinc-lead accumulator described in the parent Specification is supplied and which comprises sulphuric acid, zinc sulphate and substances having catalytic action is modified by introducing some of the ingredients into the battery in the solid state. For example, the necessary quantity of zinc in the electrolyte may be supplied by providing the negative electrode with the additional zinc required to be dissolved. The catalytic substances may be placed in the container in a pulverized condition. When the accumulator is required for use dilute sulphuric acid is added containing 220 grams of sulphuric acid in 800 c.c. of solution.
