Abstract
114,475. Wade, H., (Flanders, L. H.). April 4, 1917. Electrodes.-Active material for storage battery plates is prepared by adding strong sulphuric acid to a paste of lead oxide and water. The electrodes after being coated with the active material are immersed in a sulphating fluid such as a dilute solution of ammonium sulphate or sulphuric acid. In one example, 427 c.c. sulphuric acid of specific gravity 1.400 are added to a mixture of 20 lb. litharge and 800 c.c. water. The pasted electrodes are immersed for twenty-four hours in 20,000 c.c. sulphuric acid of specific gravity 1.250. In another example, 32 c.c. sulphuric acid of specific gravity '1.400 are added to a mixture of 1 lb. lead oxide with 433 c.c. water.
