Abstract
758,070. Batteries. BOPP, A. Oct. 5, 1951 [Oct. 6, 1950], No. 23223/51. Class 53. A primary or secondary cell is provided with an electrolyte consisting of a solution of chromium trioxide in sulphuric acid of fifty per cent strength or greater and electrodes that are not attacked when the cell is not delivering current, the proportions of the materials in the electrolyte being such that when current is withdrawn from the cell soluble chromium sulphate is produced. In an example zinc and carbon are immersed in a solution of chromium trioxide in sulphuric acid containing also acetic acid and mercury chloride and in another example lead and carbon are used in a solution of chromium trioxide in sulphuric acid with the addition of nitric acid.
