Abstract

290,034. Leather, F. J. April 29, 1927. Hoods.-In hoods of the kind in which cantrails extend from the rear to the front of the body and are engaged by shoes sliding thereon and carrying hop-sticks, the raising and lowering of the hood being performed by endless flexible members means are provided for assisting the entry of the side edges of the hood into channels or grooves formed on or in connection with the cant rails. The hoop-sticks 9 are connected by pairs of links 15 to shoes 16 adapted to run on the cant rails and the flexible covering 4 is provided at its side edges 3 with a non-extensible wire 5 which edges 3 are forced into the grooves 2 as the hood is extended by wires 11 connecting the shoes and connected to the hood by loops 14. The shoes are also interconnected by semi-flexible cables 8 which permit the shoes to lie adjacent to one another when the hood is retracted but which are rigid enough to force the edges 3 of the hood out of the grooves 2, the cables being also connected to the hood 4 by the loops 14. At the curved rear part of the cant rails inclined flanges 7 are provided to guide the edges 3 into the grooves 2. Specifications 263,524, 264,402 and 270,774 are referred to.
