PARTITION` FOR RAILWAY CARS .med Dec. 21, 1927 H-f" /2 /zg fit# I I N VEN TOR.
ATTORNEY Patented July 2, 1929.
PATENT GFFICE.
'i ERNEST N. GRIM, OIF JANESVILLE, WISCONSIN.
PARTITION FOR RAILWAY GARS.
Application led. December 21, 1927. Serial No. 241,564.
My invention relates to partitions for railway oars and is adapted particularly `lor use with cattle cars whereby to provide means for segregating` the cattle in the car.
5 rin object oit the invention is to provide a device ot this character which is movable from end to end in the car and adapted to be secured in any desired position therein so as to separate the sections o1 the car intol any 10 desired area.
A further object is to provide a partition of this character which is simple and practical in construction, strong and durable, easily movable, inexpensive to manufacture and install and otherwise Well adapted for the pur poses for which the saine is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the special construction, combination and arrangement of the various elements forming 2U the invention as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being;n had to the accoinl'ianying draiviiigl forming part l hereof? 'wherein like numerals reiter to like parts throughout the specilication and in which Figure l is a vertical transverse sectional view through a ear showing the partition in position therein7 and Figure 2 is a detail view o'l' one of the ifea teners taken along a line 2 2 of Figure l.
Referring now to the drawingin detail the invention comprises a partition composed of spaced apart vertical and horizontal ineinbers 5 and (i respectively, secured to each other substantially in the forni oit' a gate.
The partition thus formed is suspended from the root 7 of the car by means of a pair of chains or cables 8 attached at the upper edge of each end oit the partition and extendingv toward the center for connection With a supporting bracket 9 carried by pulley Wheels l0 mounted Ylor movement upon an overhead track il secured to the roof and extending,r longitudinally from end to end oil the car.
At the ends oi the partition are attached upper and lower chain sections l2 adapted to have a link thereoi'l fitted over fasteners 13 arranged at spaced intervals along` the Walls la: of the car, the links being` retained against accidental dis} 3lacen'1ent by pins l5 remow ably inserted in. the heads oit the fasteners.
Then loading or unloadingl the cattle into the ends of the car the partition is released Ylroni the walls of the car and swung on the chain so as to extend in a longitudinal direction and permit the cattle to pass at either side thereof.
Any desired number of the partitions may be employed in a vcar to separate the saine into a nun'iber of .sections and when not in use `may all be secured in an outeoii-the-way position at one end of the car.
It is obvious that the invention susceptible of various changes and modifications without departing troni the spirit of the saine or the scope of the ap pended claim, and I accordingly claim all such forms of the invention to which I am entitled.
I claim:
In a partition for lars comijirisiug,r a partition member composed of spaced vertical and horizontal sections, a pair of chain sections attached at the upper edge of the partition, a rail secured to themroolf oit the car, a pulley Wheel mounted thereon, means ior attaching the chains to said pulley Wheel and a plurality el fasteners at cach end olf the partition adapted for securing)` the same to the Walls of the car.
In testimony Wh'ereoi' I aHiX my signature.
ERNEST N. GRIM.
