Abstract

288,731. Robinson, E. Y., Hubbard, E. J. E., Bancroft, F. E., and Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd. Jan. 15, 1927. Plug couplings; two-part couplings; combined with electric switches.-A coupling member such as the cap of an indirectly heated cathode type thermionic valve, a plug-in coil or transformer, has contacts 3 - - 6, Fig. 1, which can engage with corresponding contacts 16 - - 19 of a special holder, Fig. 3. The contacts 3, 4, 5 are arranged so that they can engage corresponding contacts of an ordinary valve holder, and the short contacts 6 can engage contacts 12, Fig. 2, of an adapter that is threaded over the long contacts 3, 4, 5. The contacts 12 are secured to the adapter by hollow rivets 13 into which are soldered the ends of leads 15. In an alternative form the adapter is a ring member and the extra contacts protrude from the side of the valve cap, a partial rotation of the ring around the cap giving a switch action. In a further form, the extra contacts are placed centrally of the base of the cap and abut against contact springs carried by an adapter ring.
