Gins.-A Macarthy gin having a single ginning- roller comprises an adjustable pendent fixed knife g mounted above the horizontal centre of the ginning-roller e, an angularly movable knife h operating on the up-stroke, and a reciprocating pusher board. The knife h is operated by a crank-disc with an adjustable pin a<3> on the outside of the frame f. A connecting-rod b is mounted on roller bearings on the pin a<3> and pivoted at its other end, on an arm c also outside the frame. The arm c is machined to fit against a plate secured to the shaft d carrying the knife h on arms d<4>, and can be adjustably secured to the plate by bolts d<3>.
