Abstract

Electromagnets. - An electromagnet relay has a core consisting of E-shaped stampings 1 clamped between side - plates 2, the energizing coil 20 being wound on a former 21 which is slipped over the central limb of the core and has projecting lugs 21<a> secured to the core by a split-pin 25. The armature consists of laminations clamped between side-plates 9 and pivoted to projections 11 of the core side-plates by a split pin 14. This pin also holds in position a plate spring 13, Figs. 4 and 5, for retracting the armature, the spring 13 being formed with recessed side lugs 12 which are accommodated between the core and armature side-plates, the pin holding the end of the spring against the upper end of the core. The former for the energizing coil is formed of metal which is of high resistance or is slotted to avoid eddy currents and supports insulating end-plates 22 between turned-over tongues 23 and ridges 24. The insulated contact springs 5 are held between projections 4 of the core side-plates and are operated by an insulating pin 18 loosely mounted in the projecting ends 16 of the armature sideplates. To limit the outward movements of the armature one of its side-plates may be formed with a projecting hook 17 working in a slot 7 formed in a fixed plate 6.
