Abstract

Direct gas-pressure apparatus, non automatic. - In apparatus for automatically discharging liquid from a chamber, applicable to fountains, air purifying devices, humidifying devices, &c. gas obtained from a pressure cylinder, by chemical action, or electrolysis, is continually admitted to the chamber over a period, during which a volume of liquid several times the volume of the chamber is discharged. The form shown in Fig. 4 for continuous discharge, comprises a chamber 2, and a gas lift pipe 17 extending into a chamber 18, provided with a delivery pipe 3 and with a tube 19 for releasing excess gas pressure. In other forms wherein the discharge is intermittent, float valves or other means are provided to vent the gas from the discharged. chamber so as to permit recharging with liquid. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the gas is vented through the discharge pipe 3, so that the chamber 2 is recharged from the basin 1 through pipes 5 and 9, the latter being provided with a hydrostatic seal, which prevents entry of liquid, while gas pressure exists in the chamber. The lower end of the pipe 3 depends into a compartment 8 connected to the surrounding part of the chamber by a siphon 10. In another form, the inlet pipe 9 has a non-return valve. 13, Fig. 3, and the gas is generated chemically by means including a cylindrical or other tablet 15 waxed all over except on one or more faces 16 so that the suction proceeds at a constant rate.
