Abstract

287,143. Granger, A. E. March 16, 1927, [Convention date]. Fixed-abutment type; balancing moving parts; materials, special; strainers.-The piston 11 of a gyratory piston rotary meter is of U-shape in axial section and the web 33 is recessed to form a balancing space 27 which is open to the pressure in the interior of the piston through holes 28 in the web. The web is formed with a central boss 12 to actuate the arms 13<1> of the counter mechanism and the opening 20 in the piston wall which engages the abutment in the cylindrical chamber is enlarged to form ports 21, 22 opening into the piston interior, Fig 3. The cylindrical working chamber is formed by a disc 7 which carries an inner cylinder and on which an outer cylindrical ring 8 is positioned by a nipple engaging a recess, the whole being covered by the disc 10 carrying the counter mechanism. Liquid enters at the meter inlet 5 and passing through a strainer 16 and port 17 in the disc 7 into the working chamber is discharged through a port 18 in the cylinder 8 to the meter outlet 6. To prevent corrosion of the parts exposed to the liquid may be of ebonite or nickel.
