Abstract

286,948. Clark, G. M., (Agasote Millboard Co.). July 2, 1927. Sizing; pulp, adding special substances to.-As a preliminary to being compacted by pressure, paper stock or other fibres are treated by adding water, tannic acid and a soluble metallic soapthereto; the fibres are then beaten and the soap precipitated on to the fibre by a metallic salt. The preferred proportion of tannic acid is about 20 per cent by weight of the weight of the soap. In an example, 1000 pounds of waste paper are beaten with 110-130 pounds of a soap prepared from lineed oil, china wood oil or resin and from 10-20 per cent of its weight of tannic acid. After beating, the soap is precipitated by adding 45-55 pounds of sulphate of alumina. Specification 7301/08 is referred to.
