286,945. Russell, W. B., and La Londe, M. March 29, 1927, [Convention date]. Compensating f o r wear.- An adjustable device for internal brakes comprising a pair of brake bands with inclined end surfaces and an adjusting block with inclined surfaces located between the inclined ends of the bands is characterized by the inclined' surfaces being formed in notched corners of the block and by the ends of the bands having extensions which project over the block so that the bands extend substantially over the total circumference of the drum. A brake of the kind comprising a pair of brake bands 7, 8 having an actuating cam disposed between one pair of adjacent ends is shown. The other ends of the bands are provided with projections 19, 20 formed with inclined surfaces 26, 27 engaging corresponding surfaces on the adjusting block 15 which can be moved laterally by turning the bolt 6 screwing into the fixed part 2. In a modification, the block has extensions which fit in recesses formed in the projections 19, 20. The inclined surfaces are rounded at the corners as shown to permit slight swinging movement of the bands with respect to the block.
