Abstract

286,313. Curtiss Aeroplane & Motor Co., Inc., (Assignees of Beisel, R. B.). March 4, 1927, [Convention date]. Blocks acting on drums; fluid-pressure. - An aeroplane landing gear has disc wheels with offset rims which enclose expanding block brakes applied by hydraulic pressure controlled from the pilot's seat. The under-carriage struts are secured to a member 35 having parallel cheeks 36 supporting blocks 37 which slide under the restraint of oleo and rubber disc shock absorbers in channel members 32 secured to the side plates 29 of an H- section member having a bearing 26 for the wheel spindle 18. Brake blocks 65 pivoted at 66 to a fitting at the lower end of the central H-section member act upon the cylindrical part 16 of the wheel rim when their upper ends are urged apart by two plungers 64 in a cylinder 63 supplied with fluid from a cylinder near the pilot's seat. The blocks are guided by projections 71 on brackets 57 secured to the H-section member and are held off by springs 70.
