Abstract

341,632. Fluid pressure brakes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., 32, Osnaburgh Street, London, and FELLOWES, F., Fort Dunlop, Erdington, Birmingham. Nov. 23, 1929, No. 35923. [Class 103 (i).] A brake for the wheels of aircraft or road vehicles comprises a fluid pressure actuator disposed within the fixed axle of the wheel and adapted to engage or to disengage friction members with the hub. The wheel shown is of the kind comprising axially separable hub parts 14, 15 positioning a seat 16 for the tyre which may have fairings 17 to obtain a streamline contour. Within the fixed axle 1 is disposed a member 2 which is extensible under fluid pressure admitted by the passage 13 to displace a housing 4 against the action of a spring 3. A pin 6 passing through the housing 4 and a slot in the axle 1 thus forces the conical friction member 9 into engagement with the hub. The construction shown in Fig. 2 comprises a pair of segmental shoes each pivoted at one end to a bracket 12 on the axle 1 and applied by the spring 3 through a link 7 and a radially movable wedge 7a disposed between the other ends of the shoes, release of the shoes being in this case effected by the fluid - pressure actuator 2. According to the Provisional Specification, the member 2 may be such as is described in Specification 320,633, [Class 108 (ii), Road vehicles, Under-carriage details &c. for].
