Abstract

Reflectors.-The curves KJM, ONP represent respectively cross-sections of the upper and lower halves of a reflector adapted to reflect all rays from a source of light ABC below a plane parallel to the axis FG of the light-source and containing an axis DE. The portions KJ, ON are parabolic and have a common axis DE containing their respective foci I, H and situated at least two millimetres from the light-source. The portions JM, NP between the points J, N and the axis DE are circular, their respective centres L, Q lying on the normals JL, NQ to the parabolas KJ, ON at the points J, N at such distances that their semi-radii are less than the distances of the centres L, Q from the rectangle FGHI. The reflector may be made cup-shaped by rotating both curves KJM, ONP through 180‹ about the axis DE, or it may be made trough-shaped by displacing the curves KJM, ONP along a straight or curved line. The reflector is made of stamped or pressed brass or other metal which is silvered and polished. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that the reflector may be made of silvered glass. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
