Machine guns.-Relates to short barrel-recoil automatic guns of the kind in which the breechblock 3 is locked to the barrel 2 by a lever 5 pivoted at 4 on lugs 2<1> on the barrel. According to the invention, the lever 5 is connected by a pin 5" to an arm 6 mounted on a pivot 7 adjustable along a slot 8 and clamped to the fixed frame 1 of the gun. The position of the pivot 7 determines at what stage of the recoil of the barrel the hook 5<1> of the lever 5 releases the shoulder 3' of the breech-block. The pivot 4 carried by the barrel extends into a slot 1<1> in the fixed frame 1; the length of this slot limits the recoil of the barrel. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also an arrangement in which the lever is swung out of the locking position by the action of an oblique slot in the frame on a pin carried by the lever, and another arrangement in which the locking lever is replaced by a transversely-sliding locking member. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
