Railway locomotives, internal - combustion engine. - Comprises a locomotive or rail motor vehicle in which an internal-combustion engine acts directly on the driving axles and in which additional torque is obtained temporarily, as at starting or on incline, by the admission of compressed air to the cross-head end of the combustion cylinder. If desired, the admission of compressed air to the cross-head end of the cylinders may be used in conjunction with its admission in the usual way to the combustion end at starting.
