435,661. Locomotives ; railway motor vehicles. BUCHI, A., 20, Salstrasse, Winterthur, Switzerland. Nov. 26, 1934, No. 33922. Convention date, Nov. 29, 1933. [Classes 79 (i) and 79 (iii)] An internal-combustion-engine locomotive or rail vehicle having a supercharger driven by the exhaust gases has the locomotive or vehicle body strengthened locally so as to provide a support for the supercharger. In the construction shown exhaust gases pass from the Diesel engine 1 through pipes 9 to a turbine 5 driving a blower 6 which delivers air through a pipe 12 to the engine. The turbine and blower are mounted in a casing 6 secured to the vehicle body 7 which is strengthened by stays. In the case shown in which the engine 1 drives a dynamo 2 the blower is situated with its air intake 13 directly above the dynamo, so that the latter is cooled by the blower. Flexible connections or joints 10 are provided in the pipes 9, 12. The blower may have a horizontal shaft and may be located at the top of one side of the body, leaving a clear gangway at the side below the blower. The exhaust gases pass to the atmosphere through a silencer 11 forming part of the roof.
