Spring-actuated pumps; stroke, varying; concussion - preventing; valves, arrangement of.-A fuel pump for internal-combustion engines comprises a two part casing c, d, the part c carrying a cam shaft b and the part d carrying the pump barrels d' and spring-pressed plungers d<4>. The plungers are actuated on the suction stroke by cams b<6> and levers h<9>, and on the delivery stroke by springs e<1>. Fuel enters the bores d' through ports d<5> controlled by the plungers, and is delivered through two valves h<4>. in tandem. The strokes of the plungers are controlled by a stopbar f through which the plungers work, and which may be adjusted vertically to vary the stroke by means of a rotatable shaft g carrying eccentrics g<2> connected to the bar by connecting rods g<3>. Concussion is prevented by the fuel trapped between the bar f and the heads e<3> on the plungers. The cam shaft b is driven from another shaft through gear wheels and a clutch.
