Abstract

285,661. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., and Griffiths, L. March 10, 1927. Commutators. - Commutator segments are formed from a ring 1 provided with inward projections 4 having one or more annular grooves 2, and the recesses between the projections 4 are of dovetail section so that moulded insulation material 6 can fill the grooves and recesses. The machined ring 1 is placed in a mould together with a steel or other reinforcing ring 5 and after moulding, slots 7 are cut in the ring 1 to separate the segments. Alternatively, these slots may be formed by machining grooves in the inner surface of the ring before moulding, the outer surface being subsequently removed by turning.
