Abstract
284,910. Orris, A. C. E. Andersen-. May 17, 1927. Mixing-apparatus.-In a centrifugal emulsifier, liquids are fed through separate conduits to a rapidly rotating disc provided with channels through which the liquids pass to the periphery of the disc. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the disc 7 is secured to the end of the shaft 6 and has a central star-shaped gutter 17. A number of channels 18 - - 21 are formed in the disc and a cover-plate 8 is arranged over them. A central opening in the plate 8 contains the end of a stopper 11 which is arranged in combination with a nut 10 so that rotation of the nut will vary the position of the stopper relative to the disc with no rotation of the stopper. A pointer 14 indicates the distance of the stopper from the face of the disc 7. The liquids to be emulsified are supplied through the pipes 15, 16 and are thrown outwards by the gutter 17; they then pass between the disc and the stopper to the channels 19, thence to the channels 18, 20, 21, from the last of which they are thrown into the casing 5 and pass out by the pipe 22. In a modification the channels 18 - - 21 are replaced by a circular channel and a series of radial and arc-shaped channels reaching to the periphery.
