Abstract

284,884. Livesey, A. March 21, 1927. Feeding webs.-In apparatus for stretching fabrics transversely as described in Specification 8867/12, in which the fabric passes over a cylinder comprising rotatable end supports carrying a series of bars 1 on which are mounted coiled springs 2 which are extended to stretch the fabric by means of sliding members 7 operated by cams, the springs are provided with a covering strip 9 of rubber or other resilient material. Preferably the strip is of channel section, which substantially fills the space between the convolutions of the springs and thus presents a large outer surface to the fabric. The springs are preferably of rectangular cross-section.
