551,595. Belting. HARTWELL, R. L. Jan. 8, 1942, No. 304. [Class 109] [Also in Groups VIII and XXX] A metallic fabric for use as belting, e.g. as conveyer belts, screening belts, and wire cloths for Fourdrinier paper-making machinery, comprises knitted wire the loops of which are stretched lengthways so that the limbs 12 of adjacent loops abut and further lateral contraction and longitudinal stretch is restricted. The fabric may be formed by flattening tubular knitted fabric so that it is of two-ply nature, or a tubular fabric may be split and the raw edge secured against ravelling. Alternatively the fabric may be knitted on a flat or warp machine. The symmetrically disposed openings 14 formed by the fabric provide a non-dust collecting surface and facilitate screening.
