Abstract

Actuated or applied by speed regulators; band. -In fire-escapes of the type in which a split brake ring 19 is rotated by means of the cablesupporting sheave 12 and carries a weighted member 24 which is slidable radially thereon by centrifugal force against the action of a comparatively light retracting spring 27 for expanding the ring against a stationary brake drum 3 through the medium of thrust members 31, the hooked ends 32 of the members 31 are detachably engaged in apertures in the inner flange 34 of the brake ring at equal distances from the slit 30, and the spring 27 is anchored to a pin 28 or the member 24 at one side of a slot 26 and bears against a pin 29 at the opposite side of the slot- The arched part of the spring bears against the end 25 of a plate 22 secured to a gear 18 on the shaft 11. The other end of the plate engages. between inwardly projecting shoulders 21 provided on the ring 19. The sheave 12 has. diametrically opposite extensions in which are formed bearings for planetary gears 17. These gears mesh with an internal gear ring 2 secured to the framework and with the gear 18 free on the shaft 11. The thrust members 31 bear against a member 35 on the member 24 and bear against each other in a plane passing through the axis of the shaft 11 and slit 30. Thebrake drum is riveted to yoke arms 4 attached to the back plate 1 of the frame.
