Brakes; controlling-arrparatus; arrangements ot foot gear in conjunction with.-The pedal B applying the foot brake and the accelerator pedal A are so situated relatively to each other as to be operated by a single movement of the foot, the action being such that on depressing the foot the brake is first released and then the accelerator is operated. In the construction shown the brake is applied by means of a spring 107 acting through toggle links 111 on the foot lever 108 which is pivoted to the frame at 109 and is pivotally connected at 119 to the brake band 122. One end of the brake band is fixed at 123 and the other end is secured to a bolt 120 carrying a spring 126 and a slidable sleeve 119 to which the lever 108 is pivoted. The toggle links are pivoted to the frame at 112 and are so arranged that as the pedal B is depressed to release the brake the spring action diminishes and becomes least when the pedal is fully depressed so as to offer the minimum resistance to actuation of the accelerator pedal. The brake band may be arranged to act on the rotary part of an automatic change speed gear of the kind described in Specifications 259,975; and 276,853, [Class 80 (ii), Gearing, Variable-speed &c.].
