Abstract

Automatic circuit-b r e a k e r s adapted to be tripped thermally and. if desired, electromagnetically as well, comprise a currentcarrying strip of metal 2 which heats a capsule 6 containing vaporizable liquid, such as ether, benzol, alcohol or water, the expansion of the capsule moving a two-armed lever 8, 9 out of engagement with a weighted arm 7 which thereupon falls and opens the switch. The lever 8, 9 may be adjustably weighted as shown at 14 or may be acted upon by a spring. The circuitbreaker may be tripped electromagnetically by arranging an electromagnet to act on the lever 8. A strip of insulating material such as mica may be arranged between the strip 2 and the capsule 6.
