Abstract
684,390. Automatic circuit-breakers. HEINEMANN ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 8, 1947 [April 6, 1939], No. 16740/51. Divided out of 684,311. Class 38 (v) In a circuit-breaker similar to that described in Specification 684,311, the contact-carrying section 8b of the switch arm is connected to a pivoted base portion 8a, and to the operating linkage 13, 20 by a pivot pin 17 engaging in slots 8d in ears 8c of the contact section. The contact section is biased by a coil spring 12a secured to the housing, Fig. 3, or by a spring 12b encircling a headed pin 12c fixed to the portion 8a and extending through an aperture in the section 8b, Fig. 6. The function of the pin- and-slot connection is to enable a wiping action to occur at the contacts and if the contacts should become bonded together, the pin 17 on reaching the end of the slots gives an impact to the contact section 8b to assist in breaking the bond. The circuit breaker in addition to electromagnetic tripping may also have a thermal tripping member comprising a coil 37a of thermostatic metal secured to a shaft 32 and having an end portion which bears against the armature 34a. As the temperature of the circuit-breaker rises the armature is moved by the coil 37a closer to the electromagnet 44-46. Specification 684,327 also is referred to.
