Stationary mixers with rotary stirrers. - Apparatus for couching chocolate comprises a heated container in which rotates a partiallysubmerged rotor fitted with blades which slide through the chocolate and act by surface friction to cause a rolling or sliding movement of the particles. As shown in Fig. 1, the rotor comprises a pair of end plates d mounted on a longitudinal shaft a<1> and connected by curved blades e arranged to pass through the chocolate with a minimum of beating action. The container is jacketed and its surface may be scraped by bars f mounted on the rotor. As shown in Fig. 3, hoop-like members l, of wedge-shaped section, are mounted on a beater which is of the kind comprising a part k<3> passing across the container and connected to radial parts k', k<5> by inclined longitudinal members k<2>, k<4>. In both cases the containers are provided with discharge ports at the bottom.
