Driving - arrangements for screw propellers; propeller shafts, arrangement of.-The screw propellers are mounted in longitudinal recesses or channels in the ships hull, the engine shaft being separate from the propeller shaft and preferably parallel thereto. Propellers 2 are mounted in longitudinal recesses 1, Fig. 4, or in channels between keels, Fig. 5, and the engine shafts 4 are mounted parallel to the propeller shafts 5, Fig. 6, and cranks thereon are connected by driving rods 6. The recesses or channels may only extend along the after part of the ship. In one form, the channel has inclined side walls, and in another modification the underwater portions of the hull is cut away aft of the engines and extends the full breadth of the ship.
