Refrigerating, absorption machines, and processes for.-The pipe 10, acting alternately as a gas flow pipe from the generator 2 to the condenser 4 and as a liquid seal during the " pumping" action as set forth in the parent Specification, is so arranged that it is effectively sealed with liquid upon the initial fall of liquid level in the generator. Preferably the pipe is S-shaped, and of small volume in its upper part, which preferably leads into quiet liquid in an auxiliary chamber 9 in communication with the generator. The pipe connects with an overflow chamber 11 from which the gas flow pipe rises to the rectifier 3 and condenser. The return liquor pipe 15 from the absorber 7 passes through an exchanger 8 formed in the " pumping " pipe 13 leading from the bottom of the generator to the absorber. The height P of the " pumping " pipe should he less than the height h of the sealing pipe 10 and the latter not greater than the height s of the part of the pipe 15 in the generator. A pipe 12 returns liquor from the chamber 11, together with any liquid from the rectifier, into the pipe 15, and forms a vent for the escape of evolved gas from the pipe 15 to the condenser. Alternatively the liquor may flow from the chamber 11 to the absorber, and the rectifier may be combined with the chamber 11. A gas interchanger is provided between the absorber and the evaporator 5.
