Abstract

283,937. Electrolux, Ltd., (Assignees of Platen-Munters Refrigerating System Aktiebolag). Jan. 20, 1927, [Convention date]. Refrigerating, absorption machines for. - In continuous-cycle systems having the parts in open communication with one another, a circulation of the liquor between the absorber A and the generator O is effected by a suction action produced in a condenser K of the system during the time it is sealed off by liquid seals. This lifting action may be assisted by the superior pressure in the generator. A pipe B leads from the bottom of the generator to the condenser and is provided in its upper part with baffles 11 to form a rectifier V. It communicates with the gas space of the ganerator by a bent sealing-pipe X, and with a vessel S by a pipe 6. The vessel S connects by a pipe 7 with the rectifier and is thus always at the pressure of the condenser. Strong liquor flows from the absorber to the gererator through a pipe 2 forming an interchanger P with a pipe 1 for conveying weak liquor from the vessel S to the upper part of the absorber. The, rectifier is surrounded by a cooling-jacket fed by a pipe 13 with liquefied refrigerant, as described in Specification 274,840, collected in a separator T located between the condenser and the evaporator G. A pipe 3 connects the upper part of the rectifier jacket' with the gas space of the condenser. Liquid passes from the separator T through a U-tube 5 to the top of the evaporator and a vent pipe 4 for the hydrogen or other inert gas circulating between evaporator and absorber extends from the separator to the bottom of the absorber. The action of the arrangement is such that liquid rises from the generator through the pipe B while the pipe X is sealed, and flows into the vessel S by the pipe 6 and then by gravity through the pipe 1 to the absorber. Eventually the liquid seal in the pipe X breaks and gas passes into the pipe B to the condenser and equalizes the pressure, whereupon the original liquid levels are restored. The arrangement may be adapted to raise strong liquor from the absorber to a level above the generator and the pipe 6 may extend from the liquor space of the generator to the vessel S. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the utilization of periodical alteration of the concentration in the generator to seal the gas passage to the condenser. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specificaton as accepted.
