282,768. Trenzen, C. Dec. 31, 1926, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Production of metal. - A glass which resists attack by boiling water, and is particularly intended for making laboratory ware contains a high proportion of silica, preferably about 75 per cent, together with boric oxide, aluminium oxide. and zinc oxide. The proportion by weight of alkaline earth oxide to silica is about 1 to 7.1, the proportion of sodium oxide to silica is about 1 to 6.52, and of sodium oxide to potassium oxide is about 5 to 1. The proportion of boron trioxide to silica is about 1 to 300, and to zinc oxide about 1 to 1.2. The proportions of boron trioxide and aluminium oxide are about equal. A batch for making a glass having the proportions given above comprises 72 parts by weight of silica, 0.625 parts of borax, 18 parts of pure calcined soda, 3 parts of pure carbonate of potash, 1.5 parts of sodium nitrate, 0.25 parts of oxide of aluminium, 0.3 parts of oxide of zinc, and 18 parts of pure carbonate of lime.
