Abstract

281,542. Dziuba, P. May 23, 1927. Light, treating diseases with; electric and magnetic appliances.-Apparatus for treating the body simultaneously with light and electricity comprises an electric lamp 9 in series or in shunt with the primary 2<a> of a transformer 2 connected by leads 10 with an alternating source of supply. The secondary 2b of the transformer is connected, at one end, through a plate 7 and a semi-cylindrical reflector 22 for the lamp, with a plate 21; at the other end it is connected, through the casing 1 of the apparatus and a cage 11 surrounding the lamp, with a ring 11<a>, itself connected to a ring 13. Within the ring 13 is mounted a sleeve 15 pressed upwards by a spring 17 in contact with the plate 21, a flange 16 on the sleeve contacting in this position with the ring 13 thereby completing the secondary circuit and causing currents which may be used inductively for treatment of the body, to flow in the cage 11. The sleeve 15 protrudes through a plate carrying a socket 18 for a screw terminal 19. On placing the spade or other end 20 of a lead to an electrode 25 beneath the terminal 19 and screwing down, the sleeve 15 is depressed and breaks contact with the ring 13. The secondary circuit is then completed through the members 7, 22, 21, 17, 15, 20, 25, through the body to which the electrode 25 is applied and thence through the casing 1 applied directly to the body or through an electrode dipping into a bath and connected to a terminal 26 on the casing. The members 21, 13 and 18 are separated by insulating members 12 and the various parts bound together by an external ring 14 screw threaded to the ring 11<a>. The transformer 2 is provided with an iron case 3 adjustable by a screw 4. its position being indicated by a pointer and scale 5, 6.
