Bottling. - In a rotary bottling-machine in which the bottle is automatically raised by a roll running on a circular path and the field pipe enters the bottle which is pressed against an elastic abutment on the pipe, the bottle elevators 8 are mounted upon tubes 12 each slidably arranged in guides 17 on a housing 4 and provided with a roll 22 mounted on a shaft 19 rotatable within a bearing 18 attached to the tube 12, the roll being continually pressed upwards by a long thin spring 29 attached at one end to the bearing and at the other to the cover 33 of a vertical tube 30 on the housing 4. The roll runs along a circular path comprising two sections 41, 42 arranged at different levels, the lower one 41 having upturned and the higher one downtumed ends. If a bottle, on the table strikes the lower edge of the feed pipe 7 whilst being raised by the spring 29, the roll will be held down and will pass away from beneath the upturned end 43 of the lower section 41 beneath the downturned end 45 of the higher section 41 beneath the downturned end 45 of the higher section 42 so that this section will not raise the elevator and bottle and breakage of the bottle will be avoided. The bottle is pressed upward by a spring 25 in the tube 12 against a resilient member 37 which surrounds the feed pipe 7 and is supported by a ring member 36 adjustably mounted on the vertical tube 30.
