Abstract
281,452. Openshaw, W. Oct. 30, 1926. Valves or cocks fitted with independentlyactuated supplementary valves.-In stop or household or other screw-down valves wherein a supplementary plug valve is provided to shut off the supply to enable repairs to be effected &c., the plug valve is arranged in the casing below the main valve in a downwardly slanting hole so that leakage can be allowed or, by removing the plug, the supply pipe can be conveniently flushed. The supplementary plug valve 9, Fig. 1, provided with a conical or rounded end 10, is threaded into an inclined hole 8 formed in a thickened portion 3 of the casing below the outlet passage and opening into a chamber 5 below the main valve 1. An inclined valve seating 7. is provided at the junction of the supply passage 6 with the chamber 5. A slot 11 or recess for reception of a tool is formed in the end of the plug valve and a fluid tight closure is effected by a flanged screw-plug 12 and washer 13. In the, form shown) in Fig. 2, the threaded plug spindle 23 is screwed into a sleeve 21 which itself is screwed into the threaded. opening 18 being retained in positdon by a set screw 22. Each screwed member is slotted or formed to facilitate manipulation by a tool, and by double adjustment thereof, wear on the valve. surfaces can be distributed.
