281,247. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Nov. 26, 1926, [Convention date]. Hydrogenation, destructive.-Motor fuels having " anti-knock " properties are obtained by the destructive hydrogenation of highly bituminous coals by extracting the bitumen before or during the treatment. The bitumen may be extracted before the hydrogenation by solution in benzene or the bituminous coal mav be destructively hydrogenated to a slight extent and the bituminous constituents removed from the middle oils obtained by cooling, the oils being then further converted into benzine.
