Abstract

281,022. Doggett, E. Aug. 27, 1926. Waterproofing bricks and tiles.-Articles made of concrete are waterproofed by treating them with a mixture of alum and dissolved shellac. In the preferred method of preparation an aqueous solution of alum is boiled until a thick liquid is obtained, and this is mixed with shellac dissolved in alcohol, acetic acid, soda, borax or potash, to form a thin paste, in the proportion of 8 parts by weight of alum to one part of shellac solution. Sufficient water is added to the paste to carry it into the pores of the concrete.
