Abstract
280,673. Brockhouse, J. T., and Pountney, H. E. Sept. 27, 1926. Wind-screens.- In a vehicle wind-screen comprising a number of panels arranged edge to edge in frames, the supporting pillar or member between adjacent panels is formed from a strip of metal or other material, the longitudinal edges of which are bent or have separate strips attached to them so as to form angles or channels to receive the edges of the panels. Preferably, the strip is adapted to be bent about a longitudinal line so that the angle between the panels can be adjusted as required. The invention is described as applied to a V-shaped screen in which each section comprises a lower fixed panel 23 and an upper panel 30 hinged about an horizontal axis 24 and overlapping the lower panel. The edges of the strip 1, which forms the central vertical pillar, are bent back upon themselves and then at right-angles to form integral angles 5, 8 and 6, 7 to receive the panels; subsequently, the strip is bent about a central longitudinal line to set the panels at the required angle, and upper and lower wedges 10, 11 are driven into the gap 12 so formed so as to maintain the angle. Strips or bars 16 of metal, to which the lower panels 23 are fixed and the upper panels 30 are hinged, are secured by screws within the angles, while a covering-strip 13 is arranged in front of the gap 12. The strip may be provided at one or both ends with extensions for facilitating its attachment to the vehicle.
