Abstract

Blades for gas and steam turbines are fixed by employing at least one elastic fixing member so that when cold, they are firmly held and when hot, are not permanently deformed owing to the high stresses caused by expansion. Fig. 1 shows such a fixing means wherein the blade-root b has a slot d and the rotor c has clearance at f and below the bladeroot. The slots d may be cut horizontally. Instead of cutting slots in the blade-roots, separate spring packing pieces may be inserted, such as n, Fig. 6. The slots may be cut in the shoulders of the rotor, as in Fig. 5. Fig. 3 shows a portion of a rotor with blades a mounted in various ways. The first blade is provided with a packing piece made elastic by the slot d. The root of the next blade is slotted for elasticity and has a solid packing piece g of a resilient piece i. The next blade has a solid root and a resilient packing piece g. The last blade has a solid root a solid packing piece g and a resilient S- shaped packing piece k. The slots or resilient packing pieces may be arranged to permit freedom of expansion in three dimensions. The packing pieces and blade-roots have clearance at f for the expansion of the unresilient parts.
