Producers.-In a gas-making process of the kind described in the parent Specification according to which air or air and steam are blown with sufficient force through powdered material to keep it in a state of agitation, the blast is delivered from above into the fuel bed as well as, if required, from below. The fuel dust carried away with the gas is gasified by the admission of a limited amount of air or oxygen and fresh fuel may be supplied to the charge from below the normal fuel Surface during the run " for water gas. To increase the calorific value of the gas, liquid fuel, tar or molten asphalt may be introduced and the fuel may be dried by the hot gases leaving the producer, the dry fuel entering a separator and being fed by gravity to the fuel bed. Producer gas passes by a pipe F through a separator G from which the coarser particles are fed by a steam nozzle H to the fuel bed.
