Abstract

Water - tube boilers; tubes, water.-In a vertical water-tube boiler, to separate water from the steam, the tubes are fitted with helical guide plates extending up to or bevond the boiler water level. In a boiler having a number of upper and lower headers 3, 1 connected to a central drum 2 by upper and lower groups of tubes 5, 4, the tubes of the upper group are fitted with helical guide plates 11, and the headers are connected to a steam and 'water drum 6 by feed supply and steam outlet tubes 9, 8. The headers and the drum 6 are arranged out of the path of the heating gases, which are directed downwardly through the tubes. The twist of each helical guide plate increases in an upward direction. The upper tubes are of smaller diameter than the lower tubes, and the heating surface, and the total crosssectional area of the upper tubes are smaller than the heating surface and total cross-sectional area of the lower tubes. The groups 4, 5 may be connected to separate upper and lower headers and arranged side by side, the central drum being dispensed with and the upper headers of the group 4 connected to the lower headers of the group 5 by downcomers.
